Guess Daschle takes his marching orders from the New York Times as much as Rep. Phil Gingrey takes his from Rush Limbaugh.
Can I just say that I’m quite flabbergasted that the first questions a White House vetter (apparently) isn’t asking is, “can I see your complete tax records?!“
& by the way, take note: Daschle’s (flawed) argument for not paying these taxes sound awfully similar to the argument made by a recent Vice Presidential candidate who lives in part on the public dime…
Are her fans aware of this? Doesn’t look like it.
Daschle’s replacement? What about Howard Dean? (h/t Kleinheider)
Marc Ambinder speculates he may have jumped too soon.
ALSO: I just posted a new NewsChannel9.com web poll: (UPDATE: Results are in)
Should a presidential cabinet appointee withdraw from the running if they’ve had trouble in the past with not paying their taxes?
-Yes (85%)
-No (7%)
-It depends on the amount of the unpaid taxes. (8%)
What about you? What do you think?
UPDATE: Commenter “Eric” has weighed in:
“Not sure if it should be an automatic disqualifier, but I think it reflects very poorly on a nominee.
Not sure if it should be an automatic disqualifier, but I think it reflects very poorly on a nominee. Its a basic duty to keep track of these things. Blaming the accountant makes my skin crawl. There’s a reason that you get a copy of your filing. You are supposed to LOOK at it.
In any case, regardless of his politics, I’m glad he pulled out. He annoys me personally. He talks like an insincere politician. His state of the union rebuttals always disappointed me.
Unfortunately New President Obama’s weak points keep showing up in his on-the-job performance. This is on the job training for the most powerful person in the world. Too bad he keeps screwing up.
Would you trust him with your credit card to oversee charging trillions of dollars to your account?
